Each Newfoundland and Labrador community, rural and urban, has people whose talents quietly leave a lasting mark. Their work tells stories, preserves memories, and reminds us of the beauty found in everyday life. Through The Rugged View, I hope to introduce readers to some of those remarkable individuals whose passions help define Newfoundland and Labrador.

One such person is Jeff Musseau, a visual artist from Port aux Basques whose work reflects the landscapes, people, and character of Newfoundland's southwest coast. Through his visual arrt, Jeff captures everything from rugged shorelines and historic landmarks to the quiet moments that often go unnoticed. His art is more than a visual experience—it is a celebration of place, history, and community.

Artists such as Jeff play an important role in preserving our heritage. While photographs record what we see, paintings often capture what we feel. They remind us of our connection to the land, the sea, and the communities we call home.

This biography is the first in what I hope will become a growing collection of stories about Newfoundlanders and Labradorians who inspire others through their creativity, leadership, dedication, and service. Whether they are artists, musicians, entrepreneurs, volunteers, historians, or community builders, each has a story worth telling. In the coming months, I will include biographies of Robyn Slade,  David Clarke, Joan Chaisson, George Williams and Barry Musseau, and many others whose skills and talents deserve attention!
